How To Disinfect Coronavirus In Your Home

  • Cleaning refers to the removal of dirt, germs, and impurities from any surface. Cleaning doesn't kill germs, but by removing them, it lowers their numbers and the risk of spreading infection.
  • Disinfecting refers to using chemicals to kill germs on surfaces. This process won't always clean dirty surfaces or remove germs, but by killing germs on a surface after cleaning, it can further lower the risk of spreading infection.

Family members can practice routine cleaning of frequently touched surfaces (for example: tables, doorknobs, desks, handles, light switches, toilets, faucets, sinks) with household cleaners and EPA-registered disinfectants that are appropriate for the surface, following label instructions. Labels contain instructions for safe and effective use of the cleaning product including precautions you should take when applying the product, such as wearing gloves and making sure you have good ventilation during use of the product.

All hard surfaces should be sprayed down and wiped with EPA-registered chemicals.

All soft & porous surfaces can be cleaned if do-able, laundered if do-able, or disposed of.

Any open food, drink, or vessel which puts food or drink into the body must be disinfected and/or thrown away.
